School Expansion Project Details

The Purpose Of New Building For Southwest Dar-Ul-Arqm School Is To Facilitate Its Extensive Islamic Education Programs From Its Temporary Facility.

Three Identical 3,000 Sq. Ft. Of Building Structures Have Been Designed Professionally To Achieve This Goal. Buildings Will Be Constructed Thru Three Phases Due To Current Budget Costraint.

Low Construction Cost, Building Saftey, Building Longitivity, Low Energy Cost And Low Maintanance Cost Are Primary Design Issues.

Pre-Engineered Metal Buildings Systems Have Been Chosen As A Primary Building Component To Ensure Safety, Logitivity And Minimum Construction Cost.

By Using Similar Brick, Color And Textures, New Buildings Will Continue To Carry Its Existing Architectural Design Characters Of Synott Masjid.

Finally, A Front Entry And A Back Covered Walkway Will Be Constructed To Connect Existing Building With The New Buildings. A Private Open Courtyard Will Form As A Result Of New Construction. This Open Courtyard Will Not Only Be A Safe Place For The Students To Play Around But Also Be A Unique Place For Many Islamic Festivities Years To Come.

We Believe Through A Very Carefull Design, We Have Been Able To Achieve A Soluation For Building A Safe And Better Islamic Educatrional Institution For Our Students.

Construction Started During The Month Of Ramadan, And Is Behind The Schedule By One Month Due To Heavy Rains In Houston In Feb 2003. The Expected Completion Date Is End Of July 2003.

Financial Information

We Have Spent ~ $50,000 That Includes The Following:

  • Architectural Design
  • Engineering Details
  • Permit From City Of Houston
  • Soil And Concrete Testing, Etc.
  • Contractor For ~ 20% Of The Work

We Currently Have ~ $50,000 In The Construction Fund Remaining.
We Need Additional $100,000 By June 2003 To Complete The Current Phase I.
We Will Need Additional $450,000 For Phases Ii And Iii.

Revenue Generation Mechanism

    • Tuition / Fees
    • Community Sponsors
    • Donations
    • Fund-Raisers
    • Community Volunteer Efforts
    • Trust/Endowments

Donate A Brick - Build A School

Along With The Fund Raising, We Have Initiated Another Activity Called “Donate A Brick - Build A School”. This Activity Gives An Opportunity To Many Members Of Our Muslim Community Who Can Not Do Volunteer Work On A Regular Basis. This Program Will Not Only Benefit The School, But Community Can Be Proud Of Its Efforts. It Will Require 4-5 Hours Of Time Spread Out Over A 3 Months Period.

The Program Is Based Upon Simple Math, And It Requires 250 Volunteers To Reach Out An Average Of 10 Families. These 2,500 Families Donates $100 Per Year Per Family. After Setting Aside 20% For The Trust Fund ($50,000), The Remaining  $200,000 Is The Amount That Is Needed To Do The Construction And Be Able To Build One School Building Every Year.

The $100 Is A Type Of Amount That Every Family Should Be Able To Afford For Sadqa Jariah, And When Zakat Can Also Be Donated For The School Construction.

Most Of The Time When People Hear That The Construction Requires $200,000, They Think That Their $100 Has Not Value And They Do Nothing. Once We Reach To Them Through Our Dedicated 250 Volunteers, And Explain To Them That It Is The $100 Per Year Per Family That Will Make All The Difference In Our Community, Inshallah We Will Be Surprised.

From Now, The Initiative Of Setting Aside 20% For The Trust Will Allow The School To Have Inshallah $150,000 By The Third Year When All Three Phases Are Completed, And It Should Allow The School To Earn ~ $15,000 Per Year Towards The Expenses (10 % Investment Income Assumed). Currently Isgh Has A Trust/Endowment Established, And Darul Arqam School Should Benefit From The Existing Program.

Following Are The Program Features:

  • Open To Every One (No Age Restriction)
  • It Is Based Upon The Multilevel Marketing, But We Do The Fund Raising.
  • As Volunteers Join The Program, They Seek Out More Volunteers To Reach The 250 Dedicated Volunteers.
  • If The Person Being Approached Has Reason Not To Become A Volunteer, They Are Requested To Be Part Of 2,500 Families, And Donate $100 Per Year.

So The Process Is Simple As One Two Three.

  • You Become Volunteer
  • You Seek Out Friends Relatives, And Ask Them To Become Volunteer
  • If They Become One, Give Them The Flyers And Card. If They Refuse To Become Volunteers, Urge Them To Donate, And Importance And Value Of $100 Per Family Per Year. Explain Them The Simple Math: 250 Volunteers Seeking Out 2,500 Families Each Donating $100 To Collect 250,000 For School Building.

Program Benefits

  • It Will Benefit The Teenagers Who Are Shy And Not Social
  • It Will Provide 250 Plus Muslim Community Members To Do Volunteer Work At Their Own Pace
  • Donation Process Not A Burden On Few
  • Community Pride
  • Trust/Endowment Accumulates Money
  • One New Building Every Year
